The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his silence on comments attributed to Islamic cleric, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir.
Ayodele called on the government to take action against Jingir, insisting that the cleric should be arrested over remarks he described as inflammatory.
In a video shared on social media, Ayodele warned that Nigerian Christians could face serious consequences if such statements were allowed to go unchecked.
Jingir was recently heard in a video saying that Nigerians who opposed a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket should leave the country, arguing that Nigeria belonged to Muslims. He also referred to Christians as “infidels.”
Reacting to the remarks, Ayodele accused the government of applying double standards in dealing with inflammatory statements from religious leaders.
“If the government does not caution this, then Christianity is in trouble in Nigeria. This senseless old fool, Islamic cleric Jingir, should be in jail by now.
“If a Christian had made such a statement, they would have picked him up immediately,” Ayodele said.
The cleric urged the Tinubu administration to caution Jingir and other religious leaders against making statements capable of heightening religious tensions.
He warned that failure to address inflammatory rhetoric could further threaten peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance and national unity in Nigeria.
