The National Industrial Court (NIC) sitting in Lagos has fixed October 29, 2026, for the hearing of a suit filed by the suspended Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Lagos State Council, Biodun Aladetan, challenging his suspension by the union’s national leadership.
The case, marked NICN/LA/129/2026, came up before the court last Thursday but was adjourned to allow for the hearing of a pending motion on notice.
Pending the determination of the suit, the court directed that all forms of alleged harassment and intimidation against Aladetan by the TUC national leadership must cease.
Aladetan was suspended in February 2026 by the TUC National Administrative Council over allegations of anti-union activities and insubordination. He is contesting the legality of the disciplinary action, describing it as unconstitutional.
In his originating summons, the claimant is asking the court to declare his suspension unlawful, null and void. He is also seeking an order reinstating him as Chairman of the TUC Lagos State Council and restraining the national leadership from appointing a caretaker committee to manage the affairs of the council while the case is pending.
Speaking to journalists after the court proceedings, counsel to the claimant, Joseph Opute, argued that the suspension breached the provisions of the TUC constitution and violated the principles of due process and fair hearing.
According to Opute, the disciplinary measures taken against his client were unconstitutional and should be set aside by the court.
