The Vice Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, has instituted a N10 billion defamation suit against 11 members of an alleged breakaway faction over claims he says have damaged his reputation.
Yusuf, a university lecturer and legal practitioner, is also seeking injunctive relief to prevent the defendants from further publishing or circulating allegedly defamatory materials against him.
The dispute centres on a document titled “Report of the Fusengbuwa Fact-Finding Committee,” dated August 9, 2026.
In the suit, marked HCJ/153/2026 and filed on August 24, 2026, at the Ogun State High Court, Ijebu-Ode Judicial Division, the defendants are Pa Olusegun Olusoga, Ridwan Odunrye, Muyiwa Adeleye, Alhaji Taiwo Ajumo, Sikiru Adegunwa, Hon. Kehinde Lawal, Logunleko Oludare, Prince Abdul Onalaja, Ashiru Mufutau, Prince Osiyemi Johnson and Prince Adeleke Adeyemi.
Yusuf is demanding N10 billion in damages over alleged defamation and reputational harm, alongside N5 million as the cost of prosecuting the suit.
He is also asking the court to issue a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from publishing or disseminating further defamatory statements against him.
In addition, the claimant wants the defendants ordered to publish a “full, unequivocal and unconditional retraction and unreserved apology” in national newspapers, on social media and through other platforms where the alleged defamatory statements were circulated.
In his statement of claim, Yusuf is seeking a declaration that allegations contained in the report, particularly those relating to financial inducement, bribery and document manipulation, are false, defamatory and injurious to his reputation.
He is further asking the court to declare that the purported Fusengbuwa Fact-Finding Committee was unlawfully constituted and lacked the authority to investigate, adjudicate or make binding findings concerning him.
Yusuf is also challenging the validity of the committee’s report, asking the court to declare it null, void and of no effect.
According to the statement of claim, the report purportedly contained findings and conclusions concerning Yusuf and two other individuals identified as the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House Family Structure.
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House is one of the recognised ruling houses in Ijebu-Ode and is next in line to produce the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.
The succession process followed the death of the former Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 91, after a historic 65-year reign.
The process of selecting his successor was subsequently suspended by the Ogun State Government amid rising tensions, petitions and security concerns.
