APGA Explains Why It Backed Tinubu for 2027 Presidential Election

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has explained the rationale behind its decision to endorse President Bola Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, describing the move as one driven by both long-standing party policy and conviction.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Show on Friday, APGA National Chairman, Sylvester Ezeokenwa, said the endorsement aligns with a tradition the party established during the 2011 election cycle when it backed then-President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to Ezeokenwa, the party has remained consistent with that policy and sees no reason to depart from it.

He added that APGA’s endorsement was also influenced by its belief that President Tinubu’s administration is implementing reforms that align with the party’s progressive ideals.

“The decision was fuelled by both policy and conviction,” Ezeokenwa said. “The policy dates back to 2010–2011 when the party adopted the presidential candidacy of then-President Goodluck Jonathan, and we have remained committed to that approach.”

He further stated that the party believes Tinubu is steering the country in the right direction through reforms that are consistent with APGA’s progressive agenda, making his adoption as the party’s preferred candidate in 2027 the best course of action.

APGA officially endorsed President Tinubu for a second term on Wednesday, positioning itself among the political parties already throwing their weight behind his 2027 re-election bid.
