76 ISWAP Fighters, Top Commanders Surrender as Military Intensifies Offensive in North-East

No fewer than 76 fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), including top commanders and their family members, have surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Nigeria’s North-East following sustained military offensives.

The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammad Goni, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to Goni, the terrorists laid down their arms and abandoned their enclaves as a result of relentless military pressure and intelligence-driven operations across the theatre.

He revealed that the latest surrender includes senior ISWAP leaders, describing it as a major breakthrough in the military’s ongoing counter-terrorism campaign.

“The Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation Hadin Kai, has continued to record significant operational successes in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists through sustained operations backed by credible, timely and actionable intelligence,” the statement read.

Goni said the surrendered insurgents are currently in a secure location where they are undergoing profiling, debriefing and other established procedures in line with operational protocols.

“Within the last week alone, a total of 76 terrorist foot soldiers, along with some of their family members, surrendered to troops,” he added.

He noted that the growing wave of surrenders reflects the devastating impact of sustained military offensives, which have continued to dismantle terrorist strongholds, disrupt command structures and logistics networks, and deny insurgents freedom of movement across the North-East.

According to him, the persistent operations have significantly degraded the terrorists’ combat capabilities while weakening morale within their ranks and leadership.

Goni further stated that the recent successes underscore the effectiveness of the Nigerian military’s counter-terrorism strategy, which combines precision combat operations, intelligence-led missions and coordinated joint efforts with security partners.

He reaffirmed that Operation Hadin Kai remains committed to completely defeating terrorism and restoring lasting peace and security across the North-East.

“The pressure on the remaining terrorist elements will continue unabated until they are completely neutralised or forced to surrender,” the statement added.
