Kwankwasiyya Movement has rejected claims suggesting that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, may be indirectly supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The denial follows comments made by Sanusi Bature, who, during an interview on Arise TV, suggested that Kwankwaso’s political activities could ultimately align with or benefit the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Bature had argued that while some political actors openly support the president, others may do so behind the scenes, adding that Kwankwaso’s past political engagements could have contributed to President Tinubu’s electoral success in 2023.
Responding to the allegation in an interview with Vanguard, the spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Habeeb Saleh Mohammed, dismissed the claim as politically motivated and intended to weaken Kwankwaso’s influence.
He insisted that the movement has no hidden arrangement with the ruling party, stressing that Kwankwaso’s political position has remained clear and consistent.
According to him, “My principal has always been very frank about his political direction. He does not engage in under-the-table politics.”
Habeeb further challenged the Kano State Government to provide evidence of any alleged alliance, maintaining that no formal or informal engagement exists between Kwankwaso and the APC.
He also clarified that Kwankwaso’s only known interaction with President Tinubu was a public encounter several years ago, dismissing suggestions of ongoing political coordination.
The spokesperson described the allegations as an attempt to distort public perception and undermine Kwankwaso’s growing political relevance within the opposition space, including his alignment with the Nigerian Democratic Congress.
He added that the movement remains focused on its political direction and would not be drawn into what he termed “manufactured controversies,” while urging Nigerians to critically evaluate claims made by political actors.
