Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially withdrawn from the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress in the state, pledging his full support for whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.
The governor made the announcement in a personally signed statement issued on Wednesday, describing the decision as “difficult but necessary” after what he called deep reflection and extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates.
Fubara expressed appreciation to his supporters for their loyalty, sacrifices, and steadfast commitment throughout the political process, while acknowledging that many of them may be disappointed by his decision to step aside.
He explained that his recent silence on political developments in the state was deliberate and guided by what he described as the greater interest of Rivers State. According to him, the period was marked by intense pressure and difficult choices.
The governor also thanked the APC leadership for providing him with a political platform during the process and extended special appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement.
Calling for unity among party members, Fubara urged APC faithful and supporters to remain committed to the party’s vision of building a stronger future for Rivers State.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries.
“I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” the governor stated.
