The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reassured travellers and aviation stakeholders that there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country, amid growing concerns over recent outbreaks reported in parts of Central Africa.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, FAAN disclosed that it has strengthened preventive and surveillance measures across all international airports nationwide to prevent any possible importation of the deadly virus into Nigeria.
The Authority said robust health monitoring and screening systems have already been activated at international terminals to ensure early detection and swift response to any suspected case.
According to FAAN, the agency is working closely with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, and other relevant agencies to reinforce passenger screening procedures, particularly for travellers arriving from high-risk countries.
Passengers arriving at the airports are currently being screened for symptoms associated with Ebola, while any suspected case is immediately isolated for further medical evaluation in line with established national and international health protocols.
FAAN further revealed that staff sensitisation programmes have been intensified, emergency response procedures strengthened, and coordination with airport stakeholders improved to guarantee rapid intervention whenever necessary.
Reaffirming that Nigeria remains free of any confirmed Ebola infection, the Authority urged travellers to remain calm and cooperate fully with health officials during airport screening exercises.
Passengers were also advised to promptly report any health concerns or symptoms to relevant authorities as part of collective efforts to safeguard public health and maintain safe airport operations across the country.
