Gunmen suspected to be armed herdsmen have once again attacked Otobi-Akpa community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, killing at least four residents in a deadly midnight raid.
The assailants reportedly stormed the community at about 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, firing sporadically and forcing terrified residents to flee for safety. The attack lasted for several hours, leaving parts of the community in chaos.
Those confirmed killed in the assault have been identified as Hon. Ochi Ayedu, Eje Uzu, Alinko, and Achibi. As of the time of filing this report, several other residents remain unaccounted for, raising fears that the casualty figure could rise.
This latest attack comes only months after Otobi-Akpa suffered a similar tragedy, when at least 13 people were killed, many others injured or declared missing, and over 50 houses were burnt during a violent invasion.
Residents say the recurring attacks have created an atmosphere of fear and helplessness, as communities continue to face repeated assaults despite earlier tragedies.
Security agencies are yet to release an official statement on the incident as investigations are expected to begin.
