Army Can’t Easily Storm Forest Hideouts, APC Defends Slow Pace in Tackling Kidnappers

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, says Nigerians must understand that it is not simple for security forces to swiftly apprehend bandits and terrorists who retreat into deep forest hideouts after committing crimes.

Morka stated this on Tuesday during an interview on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme monitored by DAILY POST, while addressing rising concerns over the escalating wave of kidnappings across the country.

According to him, many of the criminals operate from remote forest zones that are difficult for the military to penetrate quickly.

“I am not a law enforcement person, but I imagine that when people who commit these crimes withdraw into the tents of the forests, it’s not easy for the army to simply capture them,” he said.

Morka urged Nigerians to remain patient as security agencies continue operations, stressing that arrests and rescue missions are not always immediately made public due to ongoing investigations.

“These efforts are ongoing. When arrests are made, they are not necessarily subject to immediate media review because those arrested have to be processed, identified, and interrogated,” he explained, adding that such procedures “take days, if not weeks.”

He, however, noted that some progress has been recorded, with several kidnapped victims already rescued.

“The good news is that in some of these cases, thank God we are bringing home some of the victims. And the President has given a matching order to security forces to bring home everyone caught in this web of unjustifiable crime,” Morka added.
