BREAKING: Akpabio resigns as Niger Delta Affairs Minister

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that some serving senators are becoming increasingly anxious over the yet-to-be-released final list of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections.

Akpabio made the remark on Wednesday during the inauguration of the APC National Campaign Council for the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election.

Speaking at the event, the Senate President jokingly advised lawmakers battling anxiety over their political future to take care of their health while awaiting the party’s decision on its senatorial candidates.

“Some senators are having high blood pressure over the yet-to-be-released final list of APC senatorial candidates for the 2027 elections,” Akpabio said.

He urged lawmakers seeking return tickets to maintain cordial relationships with their colleagues and party stakeholders, stressing the importance of unity within the National Assembly.

“For my people who are having hypertension, try and hold that hypertension, and then ensure that you have carried the entire National Assembly along,” he added.

Akpabio also addressed governors within the party, noting that they have significant influence over the selection of candidates for state legislative positions.

“And for the governors, the state assemblies are going to be working with you. You have absolute right to choose anybody you want,” he stated.

His comments come amid growing political calculations and consultations within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, as aspirants across various levels of government intensify efforts to secure the party’s endorsement.
