Peter Obi Slams Distribution of Luxury Vehicles Ahead of 2027 Campaign as “Moral Failure”

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has condemned the distribution of luxury vehicles by public office holders as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

In a strongly worded statement titled “Distribution of Campaign Vehicles: Profound Insensitivity and Abuse of Trust” shared on his verified X handle, Obi described the move as wasteful, insensitive, and a blatant betrayal of public trust.

He criticised government officials who, amid widespread hunger, joblessness, and insecurity, prioritise the purchase and distribution of Hilux trucks, Hummer buses, and other luxury vehicles for political mobilisation while Nigerians battle worsening hardship.

Obi noted that leaders continue to parade brand-new Land Cruisers and other high-end vehicles, turning the suffering of citizens into a backdrop for political showmanship. This, he said, reflects a tragic misplacement of priorities.

He stressed that leadership ought to address urgent national needs such as food insecurity, collapsing healthcare, mass unemployment, and rising threats to safety—rather than indulge in extravagant political preparations.

Obi lamented the growing number of out-of-school children, mothers dying due to lack of basic medical care, and families torn apart by insecurity, questioning why those in power would choose vehicle distribution over meaningful interventions.

“This is not governance,” he said. “It represents profound insensitivity and an abuse of public trust disguised as political strategy.”

Reaffirming his belief that Nigeria can chart a better path, Obi called for leadership grounded in empathy, accountability and prudent use of national resources.

“Regardless of how bleak things may seem today, a new Nigeria is not only necessary—it is possible,” he said.
