Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed that he has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), pledging to comply with the agency’s request.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Friday, Malami emphasized his commitment to transparency and accountability in public office.
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he wrote.
He noted that his decision to publicly address the matter reflects his long-standing advocacy for openness in governance and responsible leadership.
“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — principles that I both advocate and champion,” he added, promising to keep the public informed as the situation develops.
The EFCC has not yet disclosed the specific reasons for inviting the former minister.
Malami, who served as attorney-general during the eight-year Buhari administration, oversaw significant legal disputes, asset recovery initiatives, and anti-corruption efforts. His tenure was marked by both praise and criticism, particularly regarding policy decisions, contract management, and the handling of recovered funds.
Throughout his time in office, he was involved in high-profile financial crime cases, international arbitration matters, and governance reforms, often attracting intense public scrutiny in his final years.
