Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence that he will retain his seat in the 2026 governorship election, citing his achievements, popularity, and the goodwill of the people as key factors that will guarantee his re-election.
Adeleke stated this while addressing newsmen shortly after appearing before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Osun State Governorship Screening Panel in Abuja.
“I’m so confident I’m going to win. If I could defeat an incumbent, and now that I’m the governor, within two years, it’s unprecedented what we have achieved,” he said. “I’m so confident that nobody can beat us there.”
The governor dismissed fears that “federal might” could influence the outcome of the polls, insisting that his performance and popularity across political lines would secure him victory.
“How can I be scared? I’m too popular! Anywhere I go, people love me, and everybody says, ‘Imole,’” Adeleke declared. “Even APC people are my friends. Whenever they hold an event, I go there, I take over, and they all love me. If you’re not performing, that’s when you’ll be scared.”
Adeleke added that he believes President Bola Tinubu will not interfere in the election, but would rather ensure a free, fair, and credible process.
Meanwhile, Adebayo Adepoju, Chairman of the PDP Osun State Governorship Screening Committee, said the screening exercise went smoothly and confirmed that Adeleke met all requirements.
“We reviewed all his credentials and found everything in order. He submitted his documents early, and they were duly verified,” Adepoju stated. “He’s clearly well accepted across the party, both by influential figures and grassroots members.”
Adepoju disclosed that more aspirants were expected to face the committee before it concludes and submits its final report to the PDP leadership.
