The Oyo State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oloye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, has pledged to grant greater autonomy to local governments and empower them to drive development at the grassroots if elected in the 2027 governorship election.

Adegoke also expressed concern over the growing number of out-of-school children in the state, promising targeted interventions to ensure that children of school age have access to quality and affordable education.

He made the pledges in Ibadan during the inauguration of the 25-member ADC Solutions Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 election.

The ADC candidate said his administration would prioritise agriculture, electricity, job creation and local government autonomy as part of efforts to stimulate economic growth and improve living standards across the state.

According to him, granting local governments full autonomy would strengthen grassroots development, promote human capital development and accelerate economic growth.

“If given the opportunity to serve Oyo State as governor, the local government will have full autonomy. I will boost agriculture and bring in investors to provide electricity for the people of the state and ensure employment opportunities for the youths,” Adegoke said.

He added that his administration would actively seek private-sector investment in the power sector, increase agricultural production and create more employment opportunities for young people across the state.

Adegoke charged members of the campaign council to take the ADC’s message of solutions, accountability, inclusive development and grassroots empowerment to residents across the state’s 33 local government areas.

The inauguration, held on Monday at Adegoke’s campaign office in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, marked a major step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
