Fubara Assures Rivers Communities of Project Continuity Beyond His Tenure

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured residents across the state that projects initiated by his administration will not be abandoned after he leaves office.

Fubara gave the assurance on Monday during the inauguration of the Buguma-Tema-Degema-Abonnema Road, where he stressed that the development of Rivers State should go beyond individual administrations and political tenures.

The governor acknowledged that he might not be able to meet all the demands of communities before the end of his tenure, but expressed confidence that his successor and political party would continue ongoing projects.

“Let me beg you, if I cannot meet all your requests today, my successor will continue where I will stop. However, anyone that I can start, I assure you that we will do it for you,” Fubara said.

He added that projects which could not be completed during his tenure would be sustained by his party, stressing that the ultimate objective should be the development and wellbeing of Rivers people.

Fubara said the newly inaugurated road was particularly significant to his administration, recalling that he had resolved to rehabilitate it after seeing its deplorable condition while travelling to Abonnema for a funeral.

According to him, the poor state of the road had been a source of embarrassment and had contributed to insecurity along the corridor by creating an environment conducive to criminal activities.

“I felt very ashamed of our state in the face of our position in the comity of states that we still have such a deplorable road. I made a promise that even if it is remaining one week for me, that we must fix that road. To the glory of God, today the road has been fixed,” he said.

The governor said the improved road, which connects several communities, including Abalama, and provides a major link to Abonnema, would ease transportation, boost economic activities and improve security in the area.

He also highlighted the Trans-Kalabari Road as another major infrastructure project undertaken by his administration, describing the development of the state’s road network as part of efforts to positively impact the lives of residents.

Fubara further said the improved road infrastructure would facilitate movement during the 2027 elections, noting that it would make political mobilisation across the communities easier.

He commended the host communities for their cooperation with the contractor, saying their support was instrumental to the successful completion of the project.

The governor assured residents that his administration would continue to prioritise projects capable of delivering tangible benefits to the people.

The road was inaugurated by the Special Guest of Honour, His Majesty, King Dr. Disreal Gbobo Bob-Manuel II, Owukori IX, Amayanabo of Abonnema Kingdom.

The monarch described the Buguma-Tema-Degema-Abonnema Road as a landmark project that cuts through the heart of Kalabari land and directly affects communities across the region.

He commended Governor Fubara for delivering the project, saying the people of the Kalabari nation were pleased with the improved road infrastructure.
