Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has assured residents of Mussa community in Askira Uba Local Government Area that concerted efforts are underway to secure the release of 48 abducted schoolchildren.

The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday during a sympathy visit to Uba town following the abduction of the children and other residents by suspected insurgents.

Addressing community members, Governor Zulum expressed deep sympathy to the Emir of Uba, parents of the abducted children and residents affected by the attack, assuring them that the Federal Government, security agencies and the Borno State Government were intensifying efforts to rescue the victims safely.

He disclosed that additional military and police personnel had already been deployed to the area to strengthen security and support ongoing rescue operations.

The governor further pledged to reinforce security across Askira, Uba and neighbouring communities to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.

Governor Zulum also appealed directly to the abductors to release the children, describing them as innocent minors who deserve parental care, protection and access to education.

Speaking during the visit, the Emir of Uba, Ali Ibn Isma’ila Mamza II, revealed that the abduction took place on Friday, May 15, in Mussa community.

According to the monarch, the victims comprise 37 primary school pupils, six secondary school students and five other residents.
