Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju has called on the Federal Government to immediately arrest controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, over what he described as inflammatory comments concerning the country’s worsening security situation.
Adeyanju made the call on Wednesday following the circulation of a viral video in which Gumi allegedly defended Fulani herdsmen amid growing concerns over banditry and violent attacks across parts of the country.
In the video, the cleric was heard saying that Fulani herders “are going nowhere,” adding that, “they are part of us and we are part of them. We must live with them.”
Reacting through a post on his Facebook page, Adeyanju condemned the remarks, insisting that individuals who sympathize with terrorists should be treated as terrorists under the law.
According to him, “People like Gumi can only survive in a country without a government. Terrorists sympathizers are terrorists.
“His words and actions promote terrorism in Nigeria. I call on the government to arrest him to serve as a deterrent to others.”
The comments have since sparked reactions on social media, with many Nigerians divided over Gumi’s remarks and Adeyanju’s demand for his arrest, as insecurity continues to dominate national discourse.
