Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has said FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is laying the groundwork for a presidential run in 2039, and that this ambition explains his recent spat with some APC governors.
Speaking on Monday on Arise’s Morning Show, Oseni said President Bola Tinubu is unlikely to inflame the row because he wants to protect his own electoral prospects. According to him, the President will opt for a measured response that calms tensions between the minister and the governors, keeping Wike on his side ahead of the next election.
“President Tinubu will never rock the boat,” Oseni said, adding that Tinubu could still address some of the concerns Wike has raised.
He argued that the more consequential fight will come after the polls, over the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He questioned how Wike would rebuild the party after allegedly weakening it and backing one of its factions.
Oseni described Wike’s current moves as strategic positioning for the next eight years, when he said power would return to the South. He noted that Wike ran in the last election cycle and that his age gives him an advantage in the long game.
Oseni said Wike’s actions should be read in that light, and that time is on the minister’s side.
