Governor says party will back Tinubu in 2027 and aims to sweep Anambra’s national and state assembly seats
OZUBULU, Anambra State – Governor Chukwuma Soludo has described the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as a “visa” through which many Igbo politicians rose to prominence, and criticised some of them for defecting to other parties and dismissing APGA as irrelevant.
Speaking on Saturday at the Ekwusigo Local Government headquarters in Ozubulu, after commissioning projects executed by the outgoing council chairman, Hon. Chinezie Obi, Soludo said it was unfortunate that politicians who benefited from the platform had lost focus and joined “mushroom” parties.
The governor also faulted Ndigbo for putting “all their eggs in one basket” and then complaining of marginalisation at the federal level. He said the region should now be working to reconnect with the centre by supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. He accused some Igbo politicians of misleading their followers into believing another party could defeat both APC and APGA in the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Soludo disclosed that APGA, guided by its principle of “Progressives working together,” will support APC to retain the presidency while contesting to win all national and state assembly seats in Anambra. He noted that the party had already swept the recent local government chairmanship and councillorship elections in the state.
The governor praised Obi for prudent management of resources and for delivering roads, CCTV installations and skills acquisition centres for students. He said this disproved claims that local governments lack the funds for capital projects. He pledged to reward Obi for his service after he leaves office, and expressed confidence that the incoming chairman, Hon. Ifeanyi Onuchukwu, would surpass his predecessor’s achievements.
Obi thanked Soludo for his leadership, saying he leveraged the governor’s good works to deliver the projects. “What you saw here today is a testament to my vision,” he said.
Onuchukwu said he has drawn up action plans in line with his manifesto and will begin work as soon as he is sworn in.
The event also featured the presentation of Community Service Awards to both men by the Anambra State Town Union Council (ASTUC), Youth Wing, led by its President-General, Hon. Ken Okoli.
