Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, predicting that he will emerge as the state’s next governor in the 2027 election.

Wike made the declaration on Tuesday during a reception organised in his honour by Ogbakor Ikwerre, the socio-cultural organisation representing the Ikwerre ethnic nationality, at Obiri-Ehie.

While acknowledging the presence of prominent guests at the event, the former Rivers State governor described Chinda as the “former Minority Leader in the House of Representatives” and declared that, “by the grace of God, [he is] the next governor of Rivers State.”

Chinda, who currently represents a constituency in the House of Representatives, is a longtime political ally of Wike and has been viewed as the former governor’s preferred successor following recent political realignments in Rivers State.

If elected in 2027, Chinda would succeed Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who has indicated that he will not seek a second term in office.
