Brazil midfielder Casemiro struggled to hold back tears after the Selecão crashed out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, admitting the team had let an entire nation down.
Brazil’s campaign came to an abrupt end on Sunday following a 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16, despite a goal from Neymar.
An emotional Casemiro, speaking after the match, described the elimination as a heartbreaking moment and acknowledged the disappointment felt by millions of Brazilian fans.
“It’s difficult. I only want to be with my family. We did our best, but we lost our dream… we disappointed all Brazilians,” Casemiro said in an interview with CazéTV, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United midfielder added: “We will always be the generation that didn’t win the World Cup.”
Norway secured their historic victory thanks to a brilliant brace from Erling Haaland, whose clinical finishing proved decisive as Brazil’s hopes of lifting a sixth World Cup title came to an end.
The defeat marks another painful chapter for Brazil, extending the country’s wait for a World Cup triumph since their last title in 2002.
