The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has declared that many politicians seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election lack the vision required to deliver meaningful transformation for Nigeria.
Hamzat made the remarks on Sunday while receiving members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Chairmen’s Forum, who were on a tour of major infrastructure projects across Lagos State before paying him a courtesy visit at his Ikoyi residence.
Reacting to criticisms of President Tinubu by some presidential hopefuls, the deputy governor said visionary leadership remains the distinguishing factor between the President and many of his challengers.
“Many who want to lead do not have vision. We are grateful to have leaders with foresight. Many people could not see what Asiwaju Tinubu envisioned years ago,” Hamzat said.
He described President Tinubu as a leader who fosters innovation and values ideas based on merit rather than hierarchy.
“Before the President, nobody is too small. Once your idea is better, it takes precedence, even above the President’s own. He gives room for ideas to grow,” he added.
Hamzat explained that Tinubu’s decision to establish specialised government agencies during his tenure as Lagos governor was driven by the belief that focused institutions could deliver results more effectively than conventional ministries.
According to him, several landmark infrastructure projects currently reshaping Lagos and Nigeria are products of Tinubu’s long-term vision and strategic planning. He listed the rail transport system, the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Eko Atlantic City, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Badagry-Sokoto Highway as examples of initiatives designed to accelerate industrialisation and strengthen national connectivity.
“These projects are not merely for transportation; they are meant to industrialise the country and connect Nigerians,” Hamzat said.
He added that improved transport infrastructure would boost trade, promote national integration and drive sustainable economic growth, while attributing Tinubu’s ability to attract local and foreign investment to his developmental agenda and consistent economic policies.
The deputy governor also urged APC state chairmen to maintain strong working relationships with their respective governors in order to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
“It is important that we continue to strengthen our party,” he said.
Hamzat further called on elected public office holders to appreciate the central role political parties play in democratic governance, urging them to emulate the practices of established democracies.
“We must ensure that every elected official understands the importance and value of the party.
“As a nation, we must continue working towards building this country. We cannot afford to fail our people,” he said.
He concluded by charging leaders at all levels of government to uphold transparency and accountability, reminding them that they would ultimately be answerable to God for their stewardship.
