Utomi: Tinubu’s Government Would Have Jailed Peter Obi If It Had Evidence Against Him

Professor of Political Economy, Pat Utomi, has claimed that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration would have arrested and detained former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, if it had credible evidence of wrongdoing against him.

Utomi made the assertion in a post on his official X handle on Wednesday, arguing that Obi had no record of corruption that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could use against him.

According to the political economist, the government would have taken advantage of Obi’s position as an opposition figure to arrest and keep him behind bars until after the January 16 election if there were any credible allegations of corruption against him.

“I’ve said this many times, if Peter Obi had any skeletons in his cupboard or was corrupt like many other politicians, this APC-led administration would have seized the opportunity to arrest him, lock him up and keep him behind bars until after the election, especially as an opposition figure,” Utomi stated.

He further alleged that Obi remained a source of concern to the political establishment because attempts to establish credible allegations of wrongdoing against him had been unsuccessful.

“They know that, no matter how hard they try, there is no credible wrongdoing they can pin on him.

“They cannot find the kind of dirt they are accustomed to using against politicians, and that is what makes him a major threat to their corrupt establishment,” he added.
