Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has withdrawn his endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, declaring that the support he previously expressed has expired.
Oyinlola made this known during an interview on Channels Television, where he was asked whether he still stood by the endorsement he gave Tinubu in July 2025.
“It has expired,” the former governor responded.
Recall that Oyinlola was among the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Osun State who endorsed Tinubu for a second term on July 20, 2025.
Explaining the circumstances behind the endorsement, Oyinlola said it was a strategic political move aimed at addressing unresolved political and administrative challenges in Osun State, particularly the controversy surrounding local government funds and the occupancy of local government offices.
According to him, the decision was influenced by the belief that President Tinubu had the authority to intervene and resolve the issues.
He explained that the endorsement was intended to help the state navigate its political difficulties, using the expression that “if you need to catch a monkey, you have to behave like one.”
However, Oyinlola said the move failed to produce the expected results, prompting him to withdraw his support shortly after the endorsement.
“We did not achieve anything, and I exited it almost immediately,” he said.
The former governor has since declared his support for Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who is reportedly positioning himself for the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
