The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has described United States President Donald Trump as the “best politician” he has ever known, saying the American leader is distinguished by his ability to keep the promises he makes.

Adeboye made the remarks while speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., on June 23.

According to the revered cleric, his admiration for Trump is not based on agreement with all of the US president’s policies but on what he sees as Trump’s consistency in carrying out his campaign promises.

“I’ve never met Trump, but I’ve followed him, and I like him. It doesn’t mean I agree with all his ways, but what I like about him is that when he says he will do something, he does it,” Adeboye said.

He added that unlike many politicians who often make conflicting statements, Trump is known for acting decisively.

Pastor Adeboye also recalled raising concerns last year after reports that Trump had warned Nigeria could face military action over its worsening security situation. He said he publicly appealed to the Federal Government to take immediate diplomatic steps, noting that although military strikes could be precise, innocent civilians would inevitably be affected.

According to him, he advised the government to seek a 100-day grace period from Trump while directing the nation’s military leadership to decisively tackle insecurity within 90 days or resign. He also urged authorities to identify and prosecute those financing terrorism.

“I told them to do three things: go and meet Trump and ask for 100 days’ grace, direct the military chiefs to end the security crisis within 90 days or resign, and go after the sponsors of terrorism because they are known,” he said.

The RCCG leader disclosed that he later repeated the same recommendations during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, encouraging the President to engage Trump through diplomatic channels.

Adeboye also defended President Tinubu against criticisms over the country’s security challenges, arguing that the Commander-in-Chief has fulfilled his constitutional responsibility by issuing directives to the armed forces.

“I don’t support those accusing the President of not doing enough. When the Commander-in-Chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to put on khaki,” he said.

Drawing a comparison with Trump, Adeboye added that effective leadership involves giving clear instructions and ensuring they are implemented.

“When my friend Trump gives instructions to bomb anywhere, he doesn’t leave the White House. He has done his bit; the rest is left to those carrying out the assignment,” he said.
