Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has said members of the opposition are unhappy with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following his victory in the governorship election.
Adeleke emerged victorious in the keenly contested election with 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.
Reacting to the development on Monday, Sani said the opposition expected Adeleke to adopt a more confrontational stance towards the President.
In a post on X, Sani said Adeleke’s appreciation of Tinubu was understandable, particularly if the President played a role in ensuring that his electoral mandate was protected.
“Most members of the opposition are not happy with Governor Adeleke for ‘thanking’ President Tinubu for his electoral victory. They want the Governor to be confrontational,” Sani wrote.
He added that Adeleke’s victory depended not only on securing the highest number of votes but also on ensuring that the votes were properly collated and the outcome upheld.
According to Sani, “Electoral victory is a product of two components, winning the votes and securing the collation and victory of the vote.”
He noted that some politicians had lost elections despite winning or performing strongly at the polling units because they failed to secure the proper collation and declaration of the results.
