‘Reduce Your Convoy First’ — Rufai Oseni Fires Back at Remi Tinubu Over Call for Musicians to Spend Less on Luxury Cars

Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has criticised First Lady Oluremi Tinubu over her recent call on Nigerian musicians to reduce spending on luxury cars and channel more of their wealth into charitable causes.

In a post shared on X on Sunday, Oseni argued that government officials should lead by example before asking private citizens to make financial sacrifices.

“The President’s wife says musicians should buy fewer Ferraris and other luxury cars and spend more on charity. Can government officials also reduce their convoy?” he wrote.

Oseni accompanied the post with what he described as the First Lady’s convoy, insisting that public office holders should demonstrate prudence in public spending if they expect the same from Nigerians.

His reaction followed the First Lady’s remarks at the launch of the National Community Food Bank in Lokoja, Kogi State, where she urged some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars—including Davido, Burna Boy and Asake—to establish charitable foundations and dedicate a greater portion of their wealth to supporting vulnerable citizens.

Oluremi Tinubu said while the government remains committed to addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges, it cannot bear the responsibility alone, calling on wealthy individuals, particularly entertainers, to contribute more actively to humanitarian efforts across the country.

Oseni’s comments have since sparked debate on social media, with many Nigerians weighing in on the role of public officials and wealthy celebrities in tackling poverty and supporting vulnerable communities.
