Petrol Price Rises to N1,299 Per Litre in Abuja as Filling Stations Adjust Pump Prices

Petrol prices have increased across several filling stations in Abuja and parts of the Federal Capital Territory following a recent upward adjustment in the ex-depot price by the Dangote Refinery.

A market survey conducted on Saturday showed that MRS filling stations along the Kubwa and Lugbe expressways, among other locations, increased their Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) price to N1,230 per litre, up from N1,210.

Other filling stations, including NNPCL, Rainoil, Empire Energy and the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company, were selling petrol at prices ranging between N1,250 and N1,299 per litre.

The latest adjustment represents an increase of N20 per litre at MRS outlets.

A manager at one of the affected MRS stations, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the directive to increase the pump price was issued by the company’s headquarters in Lagos.

“We got the directive to raise our price by N20 to N1,230 per litre on Friday, but no reason was given,” the manager said.

The development followed the Dangote Refinery’s decision on Friday to increase its petrol gantry price to N1,185 per litre, from N1,165.

With the latest adjustments, motorists in Abuja and surrounding areas are now paying between N1,230 and N1,299 per litre for petrol, amid a rise in international crude oil prices, with Brent crude trading above $94 per barrel.

The latest increase comes weeks after petrol prices fell by at least N90 per litre at several filling stations following an earlier reduction in the Dangote Refinery’s gantry price.
