Nigeria’s daily consumption of petrol, diesel and aviation fuel declined significantly in July amid rising prices, according to the latest data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
The figures were contained in the regulator’s July Fact Sheet released on Monday.
According to the data, daily petrol consumption fell by 25 per cent, dropping from 47.4 million litres per day (MLD) in June to 37.6 million litres per day in July.
Diesel consumption also declined by nine per cent, from 16.0 million litres per day to 14.7 million litres per day during the period.
Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) recorded the sharpest decline, with daily consumption falling by 41 per cent from 2.9 million litres to 1.7 million litres.
The declines came amid increases in the prices of petrol, diesel and aviation fuel, which have continued to put pressure on household and business spending.
However, consumption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, increased by seven per cent, rising from 3.8 kilotonnes per day (KT/D) in June to 4.1 KT/D in July.
During the month under review, petrol prices ranged between N1,131 and N1,350 per litre, while diesel sold between N1,440 and N1,670 per litre.
ATK prices also ranged between N1,750 and N2,650 per litre.
