The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has described a recent bandit attack in the state as evidence of security lapses, while questioning the effectiveness of surveillance aircraft acquired by the state government.
The party made its position known in a statement issued on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, following the attack on an Operation Burst base along the Igbeti–Igboho road in Olorunsogo Local Government Area.
Suspected bandits reportedly invaded the security base in the early hours of Sunday and stole several items, including a generator and a motorcycle.
Reacting to the incident, the APC said the attack had raised fresh concerns about the state’s security situation and the deployment of the multi-billion-naira surveillance aircraft reportedly acquired by Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.
Sadare questioned why the aircraft were allegedly not deployed to monitor the area during the attack, particularly as the incident reportedly lasted for more than an hour.
“Since the day Governor Makinde celebrated the purported delivery of the two aircraft, nothing has either been heard or felt about their deployment to survey the airspace in the state,” the statement said.
The APC spokesman further alleged that the absence of aerial surveillance during the attack raised questions about the functionality and usefulness of the aircraft.
He described the development as “another scam,” while also criticising Governor Makinde’s continued opposition to some of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.
The party called for greater transparency and effectiveness in the deployment of security resources across the state, particularly in areas vulnerable to attacks.
