The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned legal practitioners against charging clients in foreign currencies, saying offenders could face prosecution.
The Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, ACE I Bawa Usman Kaltungo, issued the warning on Friday, September 11, 2026, when he received a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Task Force on Illegal Practice of Law.
The delegation, led by its Head, Moshood Abiola, paid a courtesy visit to Kaltungo’s office in Lagos.
Kaltungo expressed concern over the involvement of some lawyers in practices he described as illegal and unethical.
He stressed the need for legal practitioners to operate within the bounds of the law and warned that those found charging clients in foreign currencies could be investigated and prosecuted by the commission.
The EFCC official said the commission remained committed to tackling financial crimes and other practices capable of undermining Nigeria’s legal and financial systems.
