Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has been sworn in for a second term in office, becoming the first governor in the state’s history to serve two consecutive terms.
Oyebanji was inaugurated alongside his deputy, Monisade Afuye, on Friday at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye.
Oyebanji took the oaths of office and allegiance at about 1:40 p.m. before a large gathering of political leaders, traditional rulers, government officials and supporters who attended the ceremony to witness the historic occasion.
He subsequently signed the relevant documents formalising his inauguration for another four-year term.
His deputy, Afuye, had earlier taken the oaths of office and allegiance at about 1:28 p.m. before signing the necessary documents.
Oyebanji’s inauguration marks a significant milestone in Ekiti State’s political history, as previous governors had been unable to secure consecutive terms in office.
The ceremony attracted prominent political figures, including President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima; Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau; and Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake.
Several governors and representatives of state governments were also present, alongside former Ekiti governors Ayodele Fayose, Segun Oni and Kayode Fayemi.
Other dignitaries included Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Traditional rulers and political leaders at the event included the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba; former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole; and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.
Oyebanji’s second-term inauguration follows his re-election, which secured him another four years to lead the South-West state.
His return to office is expected to see the continuation of his administration’s policies and development programmes across Ekiti State.
