Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has alleged that some artistes in the Nigerian music industry resort to voodoo, commonly referred to as “jazz,” in a bid to achieve hit songs.
The rapper made the revelation during an appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast, where he discussed the challenges of producing commercially successful music.
According to him, securing a hit song is not an easy feat, noting that some artistes spend their entire careers without recording a major hit.
He, however, commended Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy, alongside Wizkid and Davido, for their consistency in releasing commercially successful songs over the years.
“Getting a hit song is not easy. Sometimes people even do jazz to get one. That is why you see some artistes crashing out when they struggle to get a hit.
“Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido have been dropping hit songs consistently for years. You have to respect that. Some artistes never get a hit song throughout their careers,” he said.
Odumodublvck’s comments have drawn attention to the intense competition within the Nigerian music industry and the pressure artistes face to produce commercially successful records.
