‘No One Can Destroy PDP’ — Turaki Vows Party Will Contest All 2027 Elections Despite Crisis

The Interim National Working Committee (INWC) Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has declared that no individual or group can destroy the party, assuring members that the PDP will participate in all categories of the 2027 general elections despite its ongoing leadership crisis.

Turaki made the declaration on Thursday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, where party leaders gathered to review the recent court judgment obtained by the PDP Board of Trustees and deliberate on the party’s legal and political strategy.

Addressing party stakeholders, the senior lawyer expressed confidence that the PDP would emerge stronger from its current challenges, describing the leadership crisis as less severe than previous internal disputes.

“No individual or group can destroy the PDP. Compared to the crisis the party faced in the past, what we are experiencing today is minor. By the grace of God, we will overcome it,” Turaki said.

He explained that the party delayed issuing an official reaction to the court judgment because some members of the interim working committee were away when the ruling was delivered, adding that the meeting was convened to reach a unified position.

Turaki further assured members that the PDP would field candidates for every elective office in the 2027 general elections, including the presidency, governorships, National Assembly, and State Houses of Assembly.

Drawing parallels with the party’s 2016 leadership crisis, which resulted in the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee, Turaki said the PDP survived that turbulent period and would overcome the present challenges as well.

He also accused the ruling party of benefiting from crises within opposition parties, alleging that the instability facing opposition groups was not accidental.

Also speaking at the meeting, former Niger State Governor and Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, urged members to remain steadfast, stressing that periods of adversity often reveal the true strength and resilience of an organisation.
