In a significant political shift, over 200 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Munya local government area of Niger State. The defectors attributed their decision to the state governor’s developmental achievements and improvements in the well-being of the people over the past year.
The new APC members were welcomed by the Commissioner of Land and Survey, Maurice Magaji, at Gunu Ward over the weekend. Joining him were former member of the House of Representatives for Munya/Shiroro/Rafi Federal Constituency, Abdullahi Ricco, and former House of Assembly member for Munya, John Bahago.
In his welcoming remarks, Magaji highlighted the importance of recognizing the governor’s development strides, which have attracted people from other parties to join forces in advancing the state’s progress. He assured the new entrants of the state government’s full support, pledging that they would not face discrimination or be sidelined.
Magaji also called on the new members to remain loyal to the APC at all levels—ward, local government, and state—and to actively promote the programs and policies of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.
