ATIKU PICKS AMAECHI AS RUNNING MATE AFTER ADC PRIMARY BATTLE

0

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has selected former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, as his running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The development was confirmed on Saturday by the immediate past Chairman of the ADC in Rivers State, Sampson Leader, in a conversation with DAILY POST.

Amaechi, who contested alongside Atiku in the party’s presidential primary election, emerged as one of the leading aspirants but ultimately lost the ticket to the former Vice President.

Before the primary election, Amaechi had publicly stated that he did not purchase the ADC presidential nomination form with the intention of later accepting a vice-presidential position.

Following the primary, the former Rivers State governor also rejected the outcome of the exercise, amid allegations by some aggrieved party members that the process was skewed in favour of Atiku.

However, indications suggest that both leaders have now reached an agreement aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in the 2027 general election.

When asked whether Amaechi had accepted the vice-presidential nomination, Sampson Leader gave a brief but definitive response: “Yes.”

The ADC is expected to make an official announcement regarding the ticket in the coming days.
