ABEOKUTA – Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has announced a comprehensive technology-driven security initiative aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture amid growing concerns over terrorism, banditry and kidnapping across Nigeria.

The governor made the disclosure during an All Progressives Congress (APC) strategic meeting held at the Presidential Lodge, Ibara, Abeokuta, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property throughout the state.

Expressing concern over the escalating security challenges in parts of the country, Abiodun assured residents that his government would take proactive measures to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating Ogun State.

“We are rising to the occasion of insecurity by deploying technology to safeguard the lives of our people. We will not wait for anyone to come and attack us,” the governor stated.

He noted that the state government is intensifying efforts through strategic investments in security infrastructure, stronger collaboration with security agencies and enhanced community engagement to sustain Ogun’s reputation as one of the safest states in the country.

“As a government, we reaffirm our commitment to the protection of lives and property across Ogun State. Through strategic investments in security infrastructure, collaboration with security agencies and community engagement, we remain committed to maintaining Ogun State as a secure, peaceful and investment-friendly destination,” Abiodun said.

The governor also revealed that special attention is being given to the protection of schools and other educational institutions, stressing that the safety of children remains a top priority for his administration.

According to him, the government has intensified surveillance around schools, deployed security personnel to strategic locations, strengthened inter-agency cooperation and adopted modern technological solutions to monitor vulnerable areas.

He explained that the measures are designed to deter criminal activities and ensure that educational institutions remain safe and conducive environments for learning.

On the socio-economic front, Abiodun said that while his administration has recorded notable achievements in infrastructure development, greater focus would now be directed toward human capital development and social intervention programmes aimed at cushioning the effects of current economic challenges on residents.

He reiterated his commitment to improving the welfare of the people and ensuring that the benefits of governance reach every segment of society.

The governor further commended members of the APC in Ogun State for conducting peaceful and hitch-free primary elections, describing the exercise as a demonstration of political maturity, unity and party discipline.

“Our primary was inclusive, transparent and fair. We sat down, discussed and chose our candidates without rancour. Though many contested, only one person could emerge. Those who stepped down for others are the unsung heroes of this process,” he said.

Earlier, the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, praised party members for their exemplary conduct during and after the primaries.

Sanusi explained that the strategic meeting was convened to strengthen consultations, mobilisation efforts and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
