NDC Disowns Planned Endorsement of PDP Guber Aspirant in Ebonyi, Warns Members Against Participation

The Ebonyi State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from reports claiming it has endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Chief Ifeanyi Odii, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The party described the alleged endorsement as unauthorized, insisting it was being orchestrated by former officials who were expelled over allegations of financial impropriety and anti-party activities.

Speaking with journalists in Abakaliki on Friday, the Ebonyi State Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Enyinnaya Udensi Alum, said the party remains committed to fielding and supporting only its own governorship candidate.

He warned party members and supporters to disregard the planned endorsement and avoid participating in any gathering associated with it, stressing that such actions are contrary to the party’s principles and constitution.

According to Alum, intelligence available to the party indicated that a group of dismissed former members was planning to publicly endorse a factional PDP governorship aspirant while falsely claiming to represent the NDC.

“Information reaching me, Hon. Prince Alum Enyinnaya Udensi, the Ebonyi State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), is that a few former members of the party, who were sacked over financial impropriety and anti-party activities, are purportedly planning to endorse one of the factional governorship candidates of the PDP on behalf of the NDC,” he said.

He reaffirmed that the NDC has its own governorship candidate and has no intention of supporting any candidate from another political party.

“The Nigeria Democratic Congress in Ebonyi State has its governorship candidate, and the party has not and will never endorse any candidate of another political party other than its own governorship candidate,” Alum added.

The party chairman further urged NDC members to stay away from the planned event, describing participation as an act of anti-party activity.

He also cautioned the general public against recognizing or dealing with the expelled individuals on behalf of the party, emphasizing that they no longer hold any membership or authority to speak for the NDC.
