The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has issued a strong warning to the public over the rising activities of fraudsters impersonating its Commandant, Major General Oluyemi Thomas Olatoye, on various social media platforms.

In a statement released by the Academy’s Public Relations Officer, Major Reuben Kovangiya, the NDA disclosed that the scammers are creating fake profiles on platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, and X, falsely claiming to offer contracts and other opportunities in the name of the Commandant.

According to the statement, the fraudulent scheme is designed to deceive unsuspecting individuals and extort money or valuable resources from them.

“The Academy wishes to unambiguously state that these accounts are fraudulent schemes designed to deceive and exploit innocent persons,” the statement read.

The NDA cautioned that anyone who engages with such fake accounts does so at their own risk, stressing that the institution will not be held liable for any losses incurred as a result of these interactions.

It further clarified that all official communications from the Academy are disseminated strictly through its verified channels, including its official website, recognised social media platforms, and reputable national newspapers.

The Academy also emphasised that the Commandant does not conduct official business or communication via personal social media accounts or any unofficial online platforms.

The NDA urged members of the public to remain vigilant, avoid interacting with suspicious accounts, and promptly report any fraudulent activities to the appropriate authorities.
