The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced the final phase of its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise, with shortlisted candidates undergoing documentation, physical fitness assessments and medical screening.
The NCS spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed this on Thursday, saying the exercise is taking place at the service’s Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
Maiwada said the two-week screening exercise, which began on Monday, would run until September 19 and cover successful applicants for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASCII), Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.
According to him, candidates are being screened in batches arranged alphabetically according to their states of origin to prevent congestion and ensure an orderly process.
Addressing the candidates, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resource Development, Frank Onyeka, said the exercise would assess candidates’ character, professional conduct and physical fitness.
Onyeka congratulated the candidates on reaching the final stage and urged them to comply strictly with the guidelines.
He said the NCS was working with the Customs Police and other relevant units to ensure the integrity and credibility of the recruitment process.
Also speaking, the Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Dow Gaura, said administrative innovations and inter-agency collaboration had helped streamline the exercise.
Gaura said the recruitment process had so far been seamless and conducted without casualties.
The screening for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs cadre ended on Thursday, while assessments for the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will continue until September 19.
The NCS had on August 4 released the final list of 3,852 successful candidates selected from 573,680 applications received for the 2024/2025 recruitment exercise.
The successful applicants comprise 1,275 candidates for the Superintendent Cadre, 367 for the Inspectorate Cadre and 2,210 for the Customs Assistant Cadre.
