The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the reported attack on its members in Kaduna State, warning that the use of violence ahead of the 2027 elections could create a dangerous political environment.
The party said the incident represented an unacceptable escalation, particularly as political activities for the 2027 elections are beginning to intensify.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said its commitment to peaceful democratic participation should not be mistaken for weakness.
“Let nobody mistake our commitment to peaceful democratic participation for weakness. No political party has a monopoly on non-state sanctioned violence,” the party said.
The ADC warned that once violence becomes an accepted tool of political competition, its consequences could become difficult to control.
The party called on security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible, including anyone who may have sponsored or organised the attack, are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
The ADC also expressed solidarity with its Kaduna governorship candidate, Hon. Isa Ashiru, and other party members affected by the incident.
It urged the Kaduna State Government to provide adequate protection for all opposition parties and ensure that they are allowed to participate freely in political activities across the state.
“Kaduna belongs to its people, not to any party,” the party said, adding that attempts to intimidate its members would not stop the ADC from organising, campaigning and contesting across Kaduna State.
The party stressed that the 2027 elections should be determined by competing ideas and votes at the ballot box rather than violence and intimidation.
