Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has vowed to closely monitor the 2027 presidential election, saying every vote will be tracked from the polling unit to the final collation stage in Abuja.
Yesufu made the declaration on Thursday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.
Reflecting on the 2023 presidential election, she said the experience had taught Nigerians important lessons and insisted that efforts would be made to prevent electoral manipulation in 2027.
“We are going to follow the votes from polling units, to the ward collation centre, to LG, to the state, and all the way to Abuja,” she said.
According to her, no ballot paper, ballot box, result sheet or individual involved in the movement of election materials would be left unmonitored.
She added that supporters would use different means of transportation, including motorcycles, boats and aircraft, if necessary, to monitor the movement of election materials and results.
“If they’re coming on a private jet, we will use an alternative private jet to go with them,” Yesufu said.
Asked whether the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is a match for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election, Yesufu dismissed the president’s perceived confidence.
“Who is Bola Tinubu? Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not who he thinks he is, and he knows it,” she said.
Yesufu further claimed that Tinubu’s public confidence was merely a façade, alleging that beneath it was fear.
Her comments come as political activities and preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
