Fubara Vows to Complete Rivers Projects Amid Political Tension

Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reassured residents that all ongoing infrastructure projects across the state will be completed despite the prevailing political developments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Fubara gave the assurance on Friday during an inspection tour of the ongoing Airport Road Bypass project in Port Harcourt, stating that his administration remains committed to governance, infrastructure delivery, and the economic growth of the state.

According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor disclosed that the project had attained about 65 per cent completion.

“I want to assure our people that notwithstanding the situation of things, one thing that I can promise everyone is that every good work that we have started, by the special grace of God, will continue and we will complete them. We’re in high spirits. Like we always say, Rivers First,” Fubara said.

The governor explained that the Airport Road Bypass was initiated to provide an alternative route to the Port Harcourt International Airport whenever protests or disputes in host communities disrupt movement along the main airport road.

“We’ve always had situations where communities express their grievances against airport authorities by blocking the airport road. Such actions affect the economic activities of the state. We felt that in a modern society, there should be a better solution, so we engaged the communities and created this bypass,” he stated.

Fubara, who was conducted round the project site by contractors, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, adding that the bypass project is expected to be completed before October 2026.

His comments come barely 24 hours after the All Progressives Congress announced Kingsley Chinda as its governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Chinda reportedly emerged unopposed following the withdrawal of Fubara, businessman Tonye Cole, and other aspirants from the APC primary election.

The Rivers governor has remained at the centre of a prolonged political crisis involving his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, a development that has continued to shape the political landscape of the state ahead of the 2027 polls.
