FG Debunks Reports of Suspension of Students’ Upkeep Allowance Under Loan Scheme

The Federal Government has dismissed reports claiming that the Students’ Upkeep Allowance under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme has been suspended.

NELFUND made the clarification in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, describing the reports circulating on social media and other platforms as false and misleading.

The statement followed widespread claims alleging that the Federal Government had halted the disbursement of upkeep allowances meant for students benefiting from the loan scheme.

Reacting to the reports, NELFUND stated that there was no directive from the government or the agency suspending the payment of students’ upkeep allowances.

“The reports suggesting that the upkeep allowance has been suspended are entirely false and misleading,” the agency stated.

NELFUND further urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating panic and confusion among students and parents across the country.

“NELFUND also urges the public to refrain from sharing unverified content capable of spreading misinformation and causing unnecessary anxiety among students and parents nationwide,” the statement added.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigerian students through sustainable education financing initiatives aimed at improving access to higher education.
