Makinde Urges Tinubu to Fast-Track State Police Creation Amid Rising Insecurity

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has renewed calls for the establishment of state police, declaring that the initiative is long overdue as Nigeria continues to grapple with worsening insecurity.

Makinde said the creation of state police would significantly strengthen the country’s security architecture and improve the fight against criminal activities across the federation.

The governor made the call on Thursday while speaking during the state primary elections of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

According to him, state police would enhance local intelligence gathering and enable state governments to respond more swiftly and effectively to security threats within their territories.

Makinde appealed to the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu to urgently expedite action on the establishment of state police in the interest of national security.

“The establishment of state police would improve local intelligence gathering and enhance the capacity of states to respond swiftly and adequately to security threats within their domains,” the governor stated.

He stressed that decentralising policing would help address the unique security challenges facing different states and ultimately reduce the growing level of insecurity in the country.
