The Federal Government has approved N30 billion for the country’s 30 universities of agriculture to kickstart mechanized farming.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made this known on Tuesday in Abuja while opening a retreat for pro-chancellors of federal universities. He emphasized the need for specialized universities to focus on their core mandates, directing universities of agriculture to cease programs unrelated to their primary purpose.
Dr. Alausa added that each university would receive N1 billion as a take-off grant to implement and operate mechanized farming systems.
