[UPDATE] BREAKING: Army, Police foil attempted jail break at Ikoyi prison

Soldiers and Policemen are currently stationed and at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre in a bid to foil an attempted jailbreak.

Nelsdaily learnt that the prison authorities notified the police and the military authorities for backup.

An anonymous eyewitness said the hoodlums were seen from a residential area, prisoners were throwing stones, soldiers and policemen arrived and then there was a fire.

There was however a report of fire outbreak at the prison facility.

Police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi who spoke to our reporter said; “Yes, there is fire outbreak there but we are investigating and our men are on the ground with fire fighters.

“Area Commander, Area A and Commnader MOPOL 2 Keffi road VI and men are there. No cause for alarm.”
