Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has described the presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a “cheap product,” while criticising the African Democratic Congress, ADC, over its handling of the party’s governorship primary in Adamawa State.
Lawal made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook page on Sunday, titled “Kachalla Series Three.”
The former SGF alleged that the ADC replaced Umar Suleiman, whom he claimed emerged as the winner of the party’s Adamawa governorship primary, with Tukur Moddibo as its candidate.
According to Lawal, the substitution was influenced by ethnic considerations and pressure from Atiku.
He further accused the former vice president of favouring political candidates based on ethnic and religious considerations.
Using a sarcastic comparison, Lawal likened the candidate-selection processes of both the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the ADC to products purchased from TEMU, an online marketplace known for low-cost goods.
“As the story goes on the streets in the state, APC donated its gubernatorial candidate to the state having purchased him from TEMU the cheap online marketplace, and it appears that the ADC too has just done likewise, aside giving to the nation a presidential candidate that looks more like he too was a cheap product from TEMU,” he wrote.
Lawal’s comments come amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ADC emerging as one of the platforms attracting opposition figures and political allies seeking an alternative to the major political parties.
His allegations concerning the Adamawa governorship primary and Atiku’s alleged influence have not been independently established.
