APC Accuses Adeleke of Blocking LG Salary Payments Amid Funding Dispute

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of being responsible for the delay in the payment of salaries and allowances to grassroots workers across the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC alleged that the governor withheld critical documents required to process payments from local government allocations.

The party faulted the governor’s recent comments in Osogbo, where he reportedly accused the APC of hijacking federal allocations meant for local government councils. It described the claim as misleading and politically motivated.

“It is absolutely wrong and demeaning for the chief executive of a state to employ lies and subterfuge in the management of governance,” the statement read.

According to the APC, federal allocations to local government councils are currently being accessed by reinstated council chairmen, who it said have been implementing projects within their jurisdictions. The party cited road grading efforts, distribution of motorcycles, and financial support initiatives as evidence of fund utilisation.

The APC further maintained that the delay in salary payments to primary school teachers, healthcare workers, and other local government employees stems from the governor’s alleged refusal to release essential financial documentation.

It listed the documents to include electronic salary vouchers, actuarial valuation registers for pensioners, and audited records of leave bonuses and union deductions, all of which it said are necessary for processing workers’ salaries and entitlements.

The party called on Governor Adeleke to release the documents, insisting that local government authorities are ready to facilitate prompt payment once the required approvals are granted.

Efforts to obtain a response from the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, were unsuccessful as calls and messages sent at the time of filing this report were not answered.
